Proton therapy facilities at CYRIC, Tohoku University

  • 1. Tohoku Univ., School of Engineering, Sendai, Miyagi (Japan)

Description

Proton irradiation system has been developed at Cyclotron and Radioisotope Center (CYRIC), Tohoku University to study proton therapy and irradiation techniques using small animals. Beam tests of wobbled-beam and spot-beam scanning irradiations were performed using an 80-MeV proton. Biological properties of the therapeutic proton beam provided from the irradiation system were investigated based on not only the irradiation experiments on a dog tumor cell of squamous cell carcinoma but also on NFSa fibrosarcoma transplanted into mice.
