Towards early realization of JLC an accelerator builder's perspectives

Description

I will discuss my perspectives on early realization of JLC, or a Linear Collider (LC) in general. The workshop organizer asked me to present perspectives, as an accelerator person, on early realization of JLC in a plain and straightforward language. This paper is a record of my attempt to respond. In this paper, I will first walk through a series of key technical issues that we need to address for successfully building a 500 - 1000 GeV range Linear Collider (LC). Then I will discuss what sort of boundary conditions exist for the JLC Accelerator Group while addressing those technical issues. I will describe how far we have come along up to now. I will discuss what remaining issues are there to bring ourselves from where we are now to where we ought to be when construction of JLC can begin. This paper should be a reasonably accurate representation of the average perception of accelerator folks working towards JLC within KEK. I hope that it should not be too far away from the views of researchers at universities who are collaborating with us in the JLC accelerator R and D. (J.P.N.)
