Evaluation of the effect of high-energy carbon nuclei on medaka spermatogenesis
- 1. Tokyo Univ., Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, Kashiwa, Chiba (Japan)
Description
The aim of this study is to find the most suitable Medaka strain for the evaluation of effects of cosmic rays irradiation on medaka spermatogenesis. Males of 4 Medaka inbred strains (Hd-rR, AA2, HNI. And KAGA) were exposed to high-energy carbon nuclei and it was revealed that males of Hd-rR were the most susceptible to the irradiation. To investigate the effects of high-energy carbon nuclei exposure on Medaka spermatogenesis, males of a transgenic strain (olvas-GFP), of which sperm express GFP and are fluorescent, were exposed to high-energy carbon nuclei. Within 4 weeks after the exposure, almost all of the sperm were fluorescent and the number of sperm decreased, suggesting that high-energy carbon nuclei killed spermatogonia and remaining spermatogonia continued to produce normal sperm after the exposure in Medaka testis.
