Background statement on organization and programs of Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory
Description
A brief summary of LBL and its facilities is given. The Laboratory's program is an interdisciplinary effort with major programs in high-energy physics; accelerator development; nuclear physics and chemistry; materials science and engineering; computer sciences; and biomedical programs, including nuclear medicine. In addition, a number of energy and environment programs have recently been initiated in the areas of geothermal energy, solar energy, conservation, and the effects of nonnuclear pollutants in the environment. 2 figures, 1 table
