Description
This book for young people shows Marie and Pierre Curie living and working together. The reader takes part in their attempts to groping their way towards unknown areas, often going astray, and yet exploring one field after the other. He learns to understand their thinking and share their feelings. Holiday pleasures are described and the birth of the children as well as successful research, the Nobel prize for physics, and the bitter event of Pierre's early death. Marie Curie unswervingly continues on her way, so that in 1911 she is awarded the Nobel prize for chemistry in recognition of her fundamental work. Marie Curie died in the summer of 1934. Radium radiation had damaged her spinal marrow. (orig./HSCH)

Das Jugendbuch zeigt Marie und Pierre Curie im menschlichen Miteinander; der Leser nimmt an ihren Versuchen teil, wie sie sich in unbekannte Bereiche vortasten, oft verirren und doch ein Gebiet nach dem anderen auskundschaften. Er lernt ihre Gedanken nachzuvollziehen, ihre Gefuehle mitzuempfinden, geschildert werden Ferienfreuden und die Geburt der Kinder ebenso wie die Erfolge der Forschung, der Nobelpreis fuer Physik und das bittere Ereignis von Pierres fruehem Tod. Marie Curie geht entschlossen ihren Weg weiter, so dass sie fuer ihre grundlegenden Arbeiten 1911 noch den Nobelpreis fuer Chemie erhaelt. Marie Curie starb im Sommer 1934.
