Measurement of soft beta emitter activities in radiation releases of the Paks nuclear power plant

  • 1. Paksi Atomeroemue Vallalat, Paks (Hungary)

Description

Soft beta emitters, 3H and 14C released by the Paks NPP are measured using liquid scintillation counting. Their activities were found to be high. The majority of tritium is released in water form, only a fraction (5-10 percent) in hydrogen gas (HT) form and in water vapour form (HTO) into the air. Their measurement techniques are described. The chemical forms of radiocarbon were found to be carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons. Their chemical treatment for measurement is presented, too. (N.T.) 2 refs.; 2 figs
