Description

The Personal Computer Transient Analyzer (PCTRAN) was modified to model the unique features of the WWER-440/213 type reactor. Verification studies were conducted against normal operation data and accident analyses using other computer codes. For normal operation, runs for load changes, shutdown, successive trips of the two turbines and trips of the recirculation pumps were conducted. For accident analysis the case of double-ended steam header break RELAP5 analysis was selected for benchmark. The calculated results of both analyses showed that for interrupted high pressure injection following the steam header break, the pressurizer filled up after about 1400 seconds. The PCTRAN provides a versatile tool for procedure development, operator and technical staff training, development of exercise scenarios, and ultimately, damage mitigation during actual emergencies.
