Fuel disposal strategy: Closing the nuclear fuel circuit in West German industry

After the collaboration of politicians, authorities and the electricity industry developed a closed integrated fuel disposal concept in past years, the decisions on the site and the start of construction of the Wackersdorf reprocessing plant were taken in 1985 and therefore this important component of the fuel disposal area was implemented. With this connection made between nuclear power stations and intermediate stores, the plant for recycling and the final stores, the necessary conditions for a closed fuel disposal strategy are complete on the part of the electricity industry. Abstract (German)
Nachdem in den zurueckliegenden Jahren im Zusammenwirken von Politikern, Behoerden und Elektrizitaetswirtschaft ein geschlossenes integriertes Entsorgungskonzept entwickelt worden war, konnten 1985 die entscheidenden Beschluesse zum Standort und Baubeginn der Wiederaufarbeitungsanlage Wackersdorf gefasst und damit auch dieser wesentliche Baustein des Entsorgungsbereiches in die Realisierungsphase ueberfuehrt werden. Mit diesem Bindeglied zwischen Kernkraftwerken und Zwischenlagern und den Anlagen zur Rezyklierung sowie den Endlagern sind die notwendigen Voraussetzungen fuer eine geschlossene Entsorgungsstrategie seitens der Elektrizitaetswirtschaft vollstaendig vorhanden.
