Development of pelletizing technique for low level concentrated waste in fuel reprocessing plant

Description

The pelletizing technique for concentrated liquid waste from a reprocessing plant was developed in order to reduce its volume and solidify it into a stable form for interim storage. This technique was based on the plastic solidification technique and pelletizing technique for the waste from a nuclear power plant. It was improved to enable treating the waste from a reprocessing plant. Engineering scale tests were carried out with the simulated concentrated liquid waste, focusing on confirming the operability of process equipments. From the results of these tests, it was confirmed that this technique was capable of adapting the concentrated liquid waste treatment system in the fuel reprocessing plant. (author)
