The ettringite stability

  • 1. Dpto. de Geologia, Universidad Nacional del Sur, San Juan (Argentina)

Description

The ettringite is an inocuos mineral when it develops during the hydratation of the cement. However if it was developed in hardened concrete it will produce deterious expansion. Ettringite is always associated with portlandite and calcite. Ettringite was sintetized with the object to study its principal characteristics. There were used aluminium sulfate and calcium hydroxide as reactive. The product was analyzed by XRD. The evolution of the sintetized was studied during 15 days at environment conditions. (author)
