Search for dibaryons in reactions of K- mesons with deuterium and 3He nuclei at 0.87 GeV/c

  • 1. Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida 32306 (United States)

Description

The reactions K-d→π-X+, K-3He→π+nX0, and K-3He→π+pX- at 0.87 GeV/c were studied using missing mass magnetic spectrometer. The X stands for a two-baryon, strangeness -1 resonant system. In order to enhance p-wave production of a dibaryon state all reactions were studied at large scattering angles; 10 deg. to 26 deg. for deuterium target, and 20 deg. for 3He one. After known backgrounds were reproduced an excess of events is observed in all three reactions. The mass distribution and the final state particles associated with the excess events suggest compatibility of these events with expectations for two-baryon resonant state decays
