Accidental predissociation of the 4pπ 1PI/sub u/+ state of H2

A new predissociation in H2 has been studied by simultaneous observation of the absorption spectrum in the 850-805-A region together with the Ly-α excitation spectrum. From the observed variations of the dissociation probability with ν and N, the mechanisms of the predissociation are inferred
