Quality Control System implantation in environmental radioprotection laboratory

In the state of Goiás, Brazil, the Laboratório de Radioproteção do Centro Regional de Ciências Nucleares do Centro-Oeste (CRCN-CO) conducts research and analyzes of environmental monitoring to detect radioactivity in water, soil, sediment and vegetation. In order to guarantee the reliability and traceability of the processes and results, a quality management plan was elaborated, as guided by the requirements of ISO / IEC 17025, which aims to improve all stages of the tests, from the arrival of the samples, the calibration of equipment, the statistical treatment of the results, until the final report is issued. In addition, the laboratory participates in the National Intercomparison Program (PNI-IRD) for the analysis of environmental samples in the determination of radionuclides. The indices obtained in the last seven years demonstrate the good performance and attest to the laboratory's analytical capacity to quantify total alpha and total beta activities in water by Liquid Fluid Scintillation Spectrometry
