Atomic and molecular effects in the VUV spectra of solids

Description
The VUV spectra of solids are often dominated by atomic or molecular effects, which clearly manifest themselves in the gross features of the spectra and the fine structure at inner shell excitation thresholds. Evidence for the influence of atomic and molecular matrix elements, multiplet-splitting and correlation is presented. Special emphasis is given to the direct experimental verification based on the comparison of atomic and solid state spectra. (orig.)

Die VUV-Spektren von Festkoerpern werden haeufig von atomaren und molekularen Effekten bestimmt, die sich in der Charakteristik der Spektren und der Feinstruktur bei Anregungsschwellen der inneren Schalen deutlich zeigen. Es wird gezeigt, dass dabei die atomaren und molekularen Matrixelemente, die Multiplettaufspaltung und die Korrelation Einfluss haben. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird der direkten experimentellen Verifikation auf der Basis eines Vergleichs von Atom- und Festkoerperspektren geschenkt. (orig.)
