Attributive risk for lung cancer from inhalation of radon in houses

Description
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the lung cancer rate as a result from natural sources of ionizing radiation. The presented data is for the period from 1981 to 1996. The attributive risk (ratio of the expected lung cancer cases and the registered ones for 1 year) is presented. As a results from the study the following conclusions are made: about 4-15% of the lung cancer cases are due to the background irradiation, the attributive risk is about three times lower for women than for men. The attributive risk for Bulgarian population is close to that in countries with similar natural background (2.3 - 3.5 mSv/a)
