Effect of soil characteristics on soil particle size dependence of distribution coefficient

Description

In order to clarify parameters which determine soil particle size dependence of radionuclide (60Co, 85Sr and 137Cs) distribution coefficient, the correlations between the distribution coefficient and the soil characteristics (specific surface area, ion exchange capacity, exchanged ion species and mineral composition) were studied for the coastal sand sieved into nine classes in particle size. It was found that the distribution coefficient was strongly connected with the specific surface area and the clay mineral content. Furthermore, it seemed that the distribution coefficient was separated into two components; one is the component corresponding to the ion-exchange adsorption which is represented as a linear function of specific surface area, and the other is the component corresponding to the fixation depending on the clay mineral content. It was concluded that the soil particle size dependence of radionuclide distribution coefficient is attributable to the specific surface area and the clay mineral content, and that the content ratio of silt and clay which have large specific surface area and rich clay mineral, has an important effect on the radionuclide distribution coefficient. Abstract (Japanese)

粒度依存性について詳細な検討を加え、その原因となるパラメータを明らかにすることにより、このパラメータを指標として放射性核種の地中挙動を解明する上で重要な、放射性核種の土壌への吸着特性を予測することが可能となる。放射性核種吸着量に与える土壌粒度の影響は、特に1mm以上の粗砂から2μm以下の粘土粒子まで幅広い粒径を含有する砂質土壌において大きいものと考えられる。本研究では日本原子力研究所東海研究所敷地内より採取した海岸砂を分級し、粒度ごとに60Co、85Sr、137Csの吸着量(分配係数)を測定することにより、放射性核種吸着量の粒度依存性について調べた。さらに、分配係数と分級砂の物理的・化学的諸物性値との相関性を調べることにより、分配係数の粒度依存性を決定する主要なパラメータを選出し、砂質土壌の粒径による各放射性核種の吸着機構を検討した。(日本)
