Best Practicable Environmental Option - A New Jerusalem is the result of the deliberations of the first working group set up by the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association. It is intended as a guide and analysis for all those concerned with effective environmental management and administration. The first of the eight chapters covers the general position and some conclusions of the group. The second suggests the role that Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution should take in the best practicable environmental option. Chapter 3 considers the waste management engineering on land in the United Kingdom. At the moment this is uncoordinated. Discharges into inland waters, the air and the sea are considered and suggestions made for improving the current practices. Chapter 7 looks at radioactive waste specifically. This is indexed separately. The final chapter considers land use planning and the best practicable environmental option. The planning system could provide a forum bringing together the various agencies dealing with the environment. (U.K.)
