Adeturone-induced changes in the intensity of DNA synthesis in radiosensitive tissues
Description
Experiments were carried out for determining the effect of the radioprotector Adeturone, applied in a single 300 mg/kg dose to VD1 mice, on DNA biosynthesis in marrow, spleen and intestinal epithelium cells. The intensity of DNA synthesis was judged from the degree of inclusion of labelled precursors (3H-thymidine and 14C-thymidine). Adeturone induced short-term reversible inhibition of DNA synthesis of radiosensitive cells, followed by a compensatory rise in the intensity of this process. Correlation of these results with data about other radioprotectors lends strong support to the hypothesis that inhibition of DNA metabolism is basically responsible for the radioprotective effect of the protector
