Pair production by a moving charge field
Description
The probability of production of the fermion and boson pairs by the field of a charge moving round a circle is evaluated. The approximate expressions derived for the production probabilities make it possible to draw certain conclusions about a possible experimental detection of the effect. Since the least mass of the boson (π-meson) is two orders of magnitude as large as the mass of the electron, the boson pair production probability x=(W/m)(E/mQ)2 is negligible in comparison with the production probability for the pair e+e-. Owing to the factor exp (-2 √3/x), the probability of producing the e+e--pair is essentially nonzero only at x approximately 1. If the charge Q is that of the proton, the condition x approximately 1 appears to be experimentally unrealizable. For electrons, however, there are the possibilities of increasing x (for example, ultrarelativistic electron scattering from the target megagauss). Assuming that (m/mQ) approximately 1, the process e- + β → e- + β + e+e- may become observable at sufficiently large x approximately 1
