Influence of rate of temperature and mechanical stress changes on domain structure rearrangement in gadolinium molybdate monocrystals

  • 1. Kalininskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Kaliningrad (USSR)

Description

Investigation results of the effect of monoaxial compression stresses and rate of temperature change on the processes of domain structure rearrangement and phase transition temperature of gadolinium molybdate monocrystals (GMM) are given. It is shown that in mechanically stressed GMM crystal processes of domain structure rearrangement, caused by temperature change, start at lower temperatures, than in mechanically free crystal. Under conditions of gradient heating both application of monoaxial compression stresses and increase in the rate of heating of a mechanically stressed sample cause a shift in GMM Curie point to the range of higher temperatures. Accordingly, the shift increases both with stress increase and with an increase in the rate of crystal heating
