Description
A recoil mass spectrometer (RMS) operating at 0deg having large acceptance angle and a finite energy width to detect evaporation residues (ERs) in heavy ion fusion reactions with high efficiency and low background due to beam like particles is under construction for use with the pelletron accelerator. It consists of a combination of electric and magnetic fields in QQEBE configuration and follows closely the design of a RMS being built at Padua. Such a mirror symmetric configuration is employed to cancel the energy dispersion effects to the first order and to obtain good mass dispersion. (author). 5 refs., 4 figs
