Half-life of 56Co

Description
The half-life of 56Co has been determined in one series of experiments by simultaneously measuring the decay of the 847-keV γ-ray line relative to the 662-keV line of 137Cs and the decay of the 1238-keV line relative to the 1275-keV line of 22Na in a Ge(Li) γ-ray detector. Data were taken for two half-lives of 56Co. In a second series of runs, covering one 56Co half-life, the decay of the 847-keV line was measured relative to the 898-keV γ ray of 88Y. By combining the results we obtain T1/2=77.30(9) d for the half-life of 56Co
