Description

We present a procedure which allows the extraction of rms radii of single-nucleon orbits from transfer data. The method relies on the strong dependence of the cross section on the rms radius of the transferred particle-wave function and the simultaneous analysis of stripping and pickup data in terms of spin-dependent sum rules. For transfer data on 51V the procedure yields rms radii sup(1/2) = 3.92, 3.97 fm for 1fsub(7/2) protons in 51V and 52Cr and sup(1/2) = 3.90 fm for 1fsub(7/2) neutrons in 51V. All values quoted are accurate within approx. 2%. These values agree with those obtained from magnetic electron scattering and disagree with the predictions of Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations.
