Description
The study on flow and heat transfer in downcomer under loss of coolant accident (LOCA) is important to the safety of reactor pressure vessel (RPV). An experimental investigation on flow and heat transfer in downcomer of RPV with direct safety injection was introduced. The flow has two cases including cross jet and impingement according to the ratio of safety injection rate Ui versus downcomer flow rate Ud. It was found that flow regime was in the condition of the cross jet at the flow ratio of Ui/Ud = 1-10 and of the impingement at the ratio of Ui/Ud > 10. Under cross jet condition heat transfer mainly depended on downcomer flow rate; and under impingement heat transfer mainly depended on safety injection rate. The heat transfer coefficient in local region went up with increased injection flow rate under impingement
