Description
A comparative study of sintered and melt-quench Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O is presented in this paper. Zero transition temperature above 100K Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O has been achieved by both sintering and melt-quench processing. A variety of modified processing techniques have been applied in this research. Specimens have been prepared by direct melting of the powder mixtures and also by melting of previously sintered pellets. As-melted samples grown from the molten state exhibited a non-superconducting crystalline phase, which upon annealing in air became superconducting. Magnetic susceptibility and XRD data show a majority of 2223 high Tc-phase was present. A dense body with partial grain alignment was observed in melt quenched samples
