Application of distorted-wave born approximation to the analysis of excitation of vibrational states of actinides by neutron inelastic scattering
Description
As a continuation of the study on the method of analysis of the neutron inelastic scattering cross sections for deformed nuclei, a new method is proposed to calculate the cross sections taking into account both the direct and compound nuclear processes. The inelastic channels were divided into three classes according to the strength of coupling to the entrance channel. The coupled-channel, distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) and Hauser-Feshbach methods were applied for each of the classes. An asymmetric type of DWBA were preferred to the conventional DWBA, since the former was considered to give better representation of the inelastic scattering cross sections than the latter for channels coupled with intermediate strength. The present method required less computing time than the coupled-channel calculations with many channel couplings. (author)
