Neutron-diffraction studies of R3Co8Sn4 (R=Y, Tb, Ho, Er) compounds
Description
Results of neutron-diffraction studies of R3Co8Sn4 (R=Y, Tb, Ho, Er) compounds are reported. Compounds with R=Y, Tb, and Er are ferromagnets with Curie temperatures of 61, 90, and 50 K, respectively. The Ho3Co8Sn4 compound was found to be a non-collinear antiferromagnet with TN=55 K. The Co magnetic contribution to diffraction patterns is not visible owing to a very low Co magnetic moment. This is consistent with TB-LMTO calculations which give a magnitude of the Co magnetic moment below 0.10μB per Co atom
