Magnetic susceptibility and crystal structure of RNi1-xSn2-y(R-La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm)

Description
Using the method of X-ray diffraction analysis (powder) the crystal structure of compounds PrNiSn2, NdNiSn2, SmNi0.52Sn1.71 belonging to CeNiSi2 type is determined. On the base of these compounds, as well as earlier known LaNiSn2 and CeNiSn2, solid deficitient solutions are formed. Compounds with Ce, Pr and Nd are paramagnets of Langevin type, their effective magnetic momenta correspond to momenta of R3+ ions, solid solutions with La are Pauli paramagnets, susceptibility of SmNiSn2-y alloys is caused by peculiarities of the Sm electronic structure. For some alloys electric conductivity and differential thermo-emf are measured
