Steam generators and Ontario Hydro
Description
The boiler tubes of Bruce-2 reactor have corroded due to accidental lead contamination. Since the combined cost of retubing Bruce-2 and replacing its steam generators can not be justified at the present time, it is going to be shut down in September 1995. Apart from that unit, the boilers at Ontario Hydro's nuclear stations are in good shape, at least compared to those of other utilities. Cleaning and repair costs will be significant. Better control of water chemistry should reduce these costs
