Chernobyl postscript. Risk management in the global village

A description of the growing environmental concerns of today is presented and considered in relation to the risk associated with an accidental release of radioactivity as experienced in Chernobyl. The need for international agreements on emergency response planning protocols and continued work on development of international agreements in the area of radiation monitoring and sampling, as well as exemption levels for contamination of food, air and water are also presented. A discussion of the need for integrated policy formulation for energy, agriculture and other major economic sectors to take into account the ecological implications of such policies is also included.
