Case history of uranium exploration in the Hotagen area, Sweden

  • 1. Geological Survey of Sweden, Lulea

Description

Exploration of the Hotagen area by the Geological Survey of Sweden began in 1974. Regional surveying has encompassed airborne gamma spectrometry, geochemical sampling of organic matter and geological mapping. Detailed investigation have included a variety of radiometric and non-radiometric ground geophysical methods, geological mapping and diamond drilling. The methods adopted are particularly suitable for detecting uranium anomalies in areas with superficial cover. The success of the exploration programme illustrates the benefit of having a prospecting philosophy firmly based on an understanding of ore-genetic processes
