Determination of geometric factors in radioactive gas monitors

  • 1. Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares (IPEN), Sao Paulo, SP (Brazil)

Description

This paper presents the development of a methodology used to calculate the geometric factor need to determine the efficiency of radioactive gas monitors, an essential parameter to monitor the activity of gaseous effluents in nuclear power plants. The methodology considers a circular detector, and a volumetric cylindrical source in front of the detector. Considering the absence of data in the literature, the methodology presented here could be only testes indirectly: it works when applied to two simpler geometries, for which data are easily available.
