HWR/PWR fuel cycle integration between Argentina and Brazil
- 1. Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica, Buenos Aires (Argentina)
- 2. Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares (IPEN), Sao Paulo, SP (Brazil)
Description
The LWR and HWR advanced fuel cycles with potential for implementation in coming years are briefly described. The TANDEM fuel cycle is analysed in more detail with respect to economics, chemical decontamination and conversion, as well as, aspects related to reactor physics, isotopic composition and management of the enriched fuel charge. The integration of Brazilian PWR and Argentine CANDU cycles, via the application of the TANDEM fuel cycle is analysed based on the existing experience in both countries, as a way to reduce the costs of nuclear electricity in these countries.
