Method for separating neptunium from irradiated nuclear fuel and/or breeder materials
Description
The proposed method is an addition to the method described in patent 1905519 for separating uranium and plutonium compounds from irradiated fuel or breeder elements by liquid-liquid extraction, where the plutonium from the uranium-retaining organic phase is directly reduced during the extraction process and separated off with the aqueous phase. It is now proposed to electrolytically reduce the neptunium together with the plutonium in one process step. Both are thus practically completely transfered to the aqueous phase and thus separated from uranium. (UWI)

Das vorgeschlagene Verfahren ist ein Zusatz zum im Patent 1905519 beschriebenen Verfahren zur Abtrennung von Uran- und Plutoniumverbindungen aus bestrahlten Brenn- oder Brutelementen durch Fluessig-Fluessig-Extraktion, wobei das Plutonium aus der das Uran zurueckhaltende organischen Phase unmittelbar waehrend des Extraktionsprozesses reduziert und mit der waessrigen Phase abgetrennt wird. Es wird nun vorgeschlagen, das Neptunium in einem Verfahrensschritt gemeinsam mit dem Plutonium elektrolytisch zu reduzieren. Dabei werden beide praktisch vollstaendig in die waessrige Phase ueberfuehrt und somit vom Uran abgetrennt. (UWI)Files
