Experimental and theoretical investigations on the impact of deformable missiles onto reinforced concrete slabs

The results of the slab conditions, which were get using the integral load time functions of the preliminary missile calculations, agree well with the test results. The applied analytical model was verified by the tests of test series I. The impact behaviour of the soft missiles is only slightly influenced by the stiffness of the target (rigid blocks and reinforced concrete slabs) used in both test series. As dominant failure mode of the reinforced concrete slabs shear failure was noticed. By cutting up most of the tested slabs it was observed that also such slabs which showed only very small cracks on the rear and front face (and no scabbing at all) showed already clearly marked interior shear cracks. The difference between scabbing velocity and perforation velocity is small. The analytical methods which are used for the calculation of dynamic loadings on nuclear power plant structures (e.g. aircraft crash) were successfully applied for pre- and postcalculations of the tests delivering consistent results with corresponding measurements.
