Cable fire experiments in the HDR

  • 1. Project HDR-Safety Program (PHDR), Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (Germany)
  • 2. Technische Universitaet Braunschweig (Germany)

Description

HDR was a former test reactor of 100 MW thermal power which today is used for safety related experiments. On account of its dimensions experiments closer to reality than previously possible have been performed also in the field of fires. Tests have been carried out starting from small scale gas fires up to reality oil pool fires. The experiments ended up in cable-fire tests within the HDR-containment
