The magnetic character of stable and metastable phases in the neodymium-yttrium alloy system

Description
Solid solutions of Nd in h.c.p. Y show first spin-glass magnetic freezing and then, above 12%, long range antiferromagnetism, the Neel temperature of which reaches 40 K by 50% Nd. The intermediate phase with the Sm structure has a somewhat lower ordering temperature and a ferromagnetic component in its magnetization. D.h.c.p. alloys based on Nd show two magnetic transitions like those of pure Nd, but a metastable ferromagnetic f.c.c. phase is easily retained in these alloys. (Auth.)
