Manufacturing of power supply system for plasma heating system of 'JT-60', a plasma feasibility experiment device

Description
The power generation system for heating a critical plasma experiment apparatus JT-60 is to supply power into the second stage plasma heating device, and composed of a motor-generator with rated output of 400 MVA and the control system enabling the smooth operation of the system. The motorgenerator is a high speed machine with maximum speed of 582 rpm, and the new construction with a flywheel was adopted. This is the largest capacity machine in the world as the generator of this type. The control system performs a part of the control system of JT-60, and the new technology such as CAMAC system and digital control was adopted. In order to attain the critical plasma condition, ion temperature must be above several tens of million deg, and neutral beam injection heating and high frequency heating are carried out in JT-60. This system supplies pulsed peak power required by the heating system. The outline of the facility, the manufacture of the motor-generator with a flywheel, and the manufacture of the control systems for the total system by CAMAC system, excitation by digital control and driving by pulse pickup method are reported.
