Investigation of thermal-radiation decomposition of cesium iodide and corrosion cracking of WWER fuel element cans under gamma-radiation

Description

Experimental results on iodine accumulation, which is formed as a result of CsI γ-irradiation on internal surface of cans of Zr-1% Nb alloy, are presented. It is established, that an increase in temperature, pressure of surrounding helium and irradiation dose result in iodine accumulation increase. Iodine formed during CsI radiation-thermal decomposition in an inert atmosphere is shown to cause corrosion cracking of the cans
