Evolution of market design for congestion management on the distribution network through the development of local flexibility markets

This thesis has allowed us to understand the evolution of the market design of electricity markets linked to the development of numerous decentralised resources, particularly for the management of congestion on the distribution network. It particularly analysed the development of new local markets for the distribution system operator. After a review of four different types of designs developed in four European countries in chapter 3, we focused in particular in chapters 4 and 5 on the investment needs for flexibility sources and on the designs that can provide the appropriate incentives, taking into account the coordination with the grid. In chapter 5 we provided a first empirical comparative analysis of the largest (in terms of volume) market developed so far. (author)
