Direct channel T and U meson formation in anti pp interactions

Creators

Description

The broad bumps observed in σTOT(pp) in the region of the T and the U mesons have been investigated with the Rutgers Annihilation Spectrometer (RAS). This spectrometer measures 32 independent mass spectra simultaneously. The spectra are parametrized by charged multiplicity (8 possibilities) and the angular region of the most forward going particle in the final state (4 regions measured). The mass resolution is ±5 MeV and seven incident momenta are measured simultaneously. The results are in agreement with previous measurements of σTOT(pp). The observed structures are ∼2% above the background. The angular dependence and the multiplicity dependence are presented for the background and for the structure.
