Investigation of the Hammer-Gamma measurement technique: A feasibility study
Description
As a reconnaissance tool for the determination of the approximate extent of shallow subsurface radium contamination, various detectors were evaluated to determine the most appropriate size for use in this task. Measurements were taken in the calibration models with existing instrumentation to determine sensitivities and calibration factors. Field measurements were taken to ensure subsurface contamination could be located with the instrumentation selected. Various methods of constructing a slim and shallow borehole were investigated to determine the easiest and quickest method of inserting the detector into the ground.
