Determination of radium activity in mixed food samples

Description

As part of the monitoring according to the Decree on Monitoring the Radiation Situation No. 360/2016 Coll. activities of 137Cs, 90Sr and 40K in a mixed diet are determined in the Czech Republic. The aim of this work is the determination of 226Ra and 228Ra in identical samples as samples of mixed food analyzed for the needs of monitoring the radiation situation. A method was developed using solutions and precipitates formed at different stages of the 90Sr separation procedure. 228Ra activity is measured in the radnate-barium sulfate precipitate after equilibration of 228Ra with 228Ac by high-resolution gamma spectrometry. The activity of 226Ra is measured after establishing equilibrium with 222Rn in Lucas chambers. (authors)
