Production of the minor actinide sources using the electrodeposition method

Description
Partitioning and transmutation technology division is planning to measure fission rate ratios that contribute to validate nuclear data of minor actinides (MA). For this purpose, MA sources for fission chambers were prepared using electrodeposition method. The radioactivity of each MA source was quantified, and its uncertainty was evaluated. Seven types of MA sources with different radioactivity were prepared using four nuclides of 237Np, 241Am, 243Am, and 244Cm. A 244Cm source solution of which radioactivity was quantified by isotope dilution method was used to prepare working standard sources of 244Cm. The radioactivities were quantified as 1461 Bq, 2179 Bq, and 2938 Bq for 237Np sources, 1.428 MBq for 241Am source, 370.5 kBq and 89.57 kBq for 243Am sources, and 2.327 MBq for 244Cm source with, the uncertainty of 0.35% (1σ). This report summarizes the method for preparation and quantification of MA sources, and uncertainty evaluation. (author)

分離変換技術開発ディビジョンでは、マイナーアクチノイド(MA)核データの検証に資する核分裂反応率について、核分裂計数管を用いた測定を検討している。そのため、核分裂計数管用のMA線源の作製, 定量及び不確かさの評価を行った。電着法を採用して、237Np, 241Am, 243Am及び244Cmの4核種について電着量が異なるMA線源を7種類作製した。さらに、同位体希釈法を用いて放射能を定量した244Cm線源元液から244Cm作業標準線源を作製し、これを用いて算出した計数効率を適用して各MA線源の放射能を定量した。その結果、作製したMA線源の放射能として、237Np線源は1461Bq, 2179Bq及び2938Bq、241Am線源は1.428MBq、243Am線源は370.5kBq及び89.57kBq並びに244Cm線源は2.327MBqを得ると共に、不確かさを0.35%(1σ)と評価した。本報告書では、MA線源の作製及び定量方法並びに不確かさ評価の過程についてまとめる。(著者)
