Operation of the Ranger uranium mines water management system
Description
The design and operation of the Ranger water management system is described. The system was designed to manage the waters within the Ranger Project area so that supplies of water for the mining and milling operations would always be available and so that the environmental impact of the project on the surrounding environment is controlled within agreed limits. The system demonstrates how the environmental impact of a mining project can be reduced in a region characterised by seasonal high precipitation resulting from its monsoon climate, and in a region of unspoiled national park values
