Outcomes of radiotherapy for Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) of the head and neck. The Tohoku University Hospital experience

Description
Ten patients with MCC were included in this retrospective study. Pre-/post-operative/definitive radiotherapy were performed in 1/5/4. Median follow-up period was 49.8 months, and death occurred 4 patients including 1 death from MCC. There were residual tumor and lymph node in 1,lymph node recurrence in 2 and distant metastases in 1. In-field tumor control was good. Irradiation for draining nodal basin should be performed considering high rate of lymph node recurrence. (author)
