Sampling of sea bottom soil

Description

The Ocean Pollution Research Group, Hydrographic Department, Maritime Safety Agency carries out some samplings of sea waters and sea bottom sediments, in order to measure concentrations of pollutants (oily matters, heavy metals, PCB, and so forth) and artificial radioactive materials (strontium-90, cesium-137, cobalt-60, plutonium-239 and -240, and so forth) in oceanic environments at sea areas around Japan. Here were introduced on developed techniques and sampling methods obtained by previous experiments in the Hydrographic Department for sampling of sea bottom soil (sea bottom sediments). (G.K.)
