Clinical and histological characteristics of intracranial meningiomas with peripheral ring enhancement on MRI
Description
Meningiomas are among the most common intracranial tumors in adults. They typically present as extra-axial lesions with well-circumscribed margins displacing the cortex. In addition, they usually have a broad-based dural attachment. On MRI, meningiomas typically display a homogenous contrast enhancement. Peripheral contrast enhancement without clear evidence of calcification or cystic degeneration is a rare manifestation of meningioma. Our hypothesis states that this atypical radiological finding could be an indication of aggressive behavior of the meningioma. This study aims at characterizing this rare entity from clinical and histopathological perspectives to potentially improve clinical management.
