In 'Makstil' A.D. - Skopje, in 2001 an accident happened when in the iron scrap which is a basic raw material for steel production, a radioactive substance was found. This radioactive substance together with the iron scrap was charged in the melting process and as a result of that, slabs contamination occurred and the plates were produced with some radioactivity. 'Makstil' A.D. - Skopje in cooperation with both the Ministry of Environment and Town Planning and the Ministry of health have determined a place to which the contaminated material was temporary placed and controlled.
