Interstellar isotopic ratios, stellar mass losses and galactic evolution
Description
A study of presently available data shows that the 12C/13C ratio in the interstellar matter is about 40, rather than 89 as in the solar system, which has the isotopic composition of the interstellar matter 4.6 x 109 years ago. Mass loss by evolved stars and possibly novae is responsible for relative enrichment in 13C. Isotopes of CNO seem to be very promising tools for the study of galactic evolution. 7 refs
